The Iain Watt Drum Studio was founded in February 2009, briefly after Iain moved from Northern Ireland to North Carolina, USA. It has been Iain's mission; through patience and perseverance, to provide fun, informative and thought-provoking lessons, and hopefully change peoples lives by introducing them to an art form which can be dated to our primal days; playing, complimenting and maintaining rhythm. Iain is a firm believer that music is, above all the other art forms, a drastic part of our life; and being able to be in tune to our natural sense of rhythm and enhancing it, is no easy feat for some, but can be done. This is where Iain's expertise comes in for you. If you live in the Triangle area of NC, you're in for even more luck!
Iain has been playing drums for 10 years, but has been actively involved in performing music ever since he was 5 years old; being classically trained in singing and clarinet; and earning a Bachelor of Music, with Honors, from the University of Ulster, in his homeland of Northern Ireland in June 2008. He also obtained a drumming sponsorship from reputed drum company Shine in April 2009. His vast experiences can all be found on this website.
As for the lessons themselves, you can choose to have either 30 minute, 45 minute or 1 hour lessons. The duration of the lesson usually depends on your own ability, age and musical background, if any. Unlike many of the drum kit teachers in the area, Iain does not just go through rudiments or 'the boring stuff' day in, day out; he takes your interests, aims and goals into consideration when constructing lesson plans. Each lesson plan is tailored to your needs, and very rarely will ever teach the same lesson to different students.
Additionally, what makes Iain's lessons so loved by his students is how interactive they are. Iain uses a mixture of video, music, books and online resources to give you as complete and thorough a lesson as possible. On top of that, he encourages students to actively listen and appreciate music, and if they want to learn the track, they can, with supervision and guidance from Iain.
Iain can teach many styles of drumming, rock, pop, jazz, latin, metal, progressive and pretty much any other style you can think of. His all-round drumming style has been appreciated by many of the bands he has played or contributed drum tracks for. Also, if you need help with reading music, Iain can teach you how to read music with no problems. Within each lesson, Iain likes to take a little time out to answer any questions that you may have about drums, or anything else music related that you are wanting to know.
The rates per lesson are as follows:
Per 30 minute lesson - $25
Per 45 minute lesson - $30
Per 1 hour lesson - $35
